Why we do this

Great OSS deserves great release communication.

Your roadmap is public, your issues are triaged in the open — but release notes still end up as a rushed paragraph in a GitHub tag.

Releasy turns commits and milestones into clear, on-brand notes you can publish to the web, Slack, Discord, and more. The Open Source Program exists so teams without a marketing budget can still sound as sharp as the code they write.

What you unlock

Headroom between “free” and “paid”

Three things every maintainer asks for — bundled in one program.

Enough runway for real releases

100 CU / month sits between our Free and Starter plans — enough to run meaningful generations, iterate on tone, and cover multi-repo setups for one coherent OSS product.

The full Releasy surface

Presets, exports, API access, and the same guardrails paying teams rely on. We want your public project to look indistinguishable from a funded product org — because it often is.

No surprise invoices

Program access is internal billing only — no Stripe checkout for the grant itself. Stay eligible, keep the backlink, and focus on contributors instead of procurement.

Eligibility

Transparent criteria — no hidden gotchas

If this reads like your repo, you are exactly who we built the program for.

Repositories must be public on GitHub.

Recent activity (commits within the last 30 days).

At least 30 stars or 10 forks (or another credible signal we can verify).

Not primarily a commercial SaaS (we review edge cases manually).

A visible link to https://usereleasy.com. At least one of: root README.md on the repository; your project website on the page where release notes are published; or project documentation (e.g. “Generated with Releasy → https://usereleasy.com”).

Extra repositories must belong to the same OSS effort (same GitHub org/user, or clearly declared for admin review).

How it works

From signup to first polished note

Most teams complete this in a single session — we handle the boring compliance bits once you submit.

  • 01
    01

    Create your Releasy org

Sign up (free) and connect GitHub with read-only access — the same secure flow every customer uses.

  • 02
    02

    Tell us about the project

From Organization → Billing, submit the Open Source application with your main repo, optional related repos, and a short description of what you ship.

  • 03
    03

We review with humans, not heuristics alone

We verify public visibility, activity, stars/forks, and that the project is genuinely OSS-oriented. You will hear back in-app — no black-box rejections.

  • 04
    04

    Publish releases that feel premium

Once approved, generate release notes with the same presets and destinations as paid teams — changelog site, Slack, Discord, exports, and more.

Your contributors already star the repo — give them prose to match.

Create a workspace, connect GitHub, and apply in minutes. Questions? Compare limits on the pricing page anytime.

Important
By applying, you confirm the statements above. Releasy may revoke access at any time if repositories become private, inactive, ineligible, or the backlink requirement is not honored.
